Modern day tapas, breaking the mould

Modern day tapas, breaking the mould

A unique experience….

The Boathouses focuses on breaking the mould of the traditional tapas bar in Spain where so often dishes are thrown together using a mixture of cured ham and cold cheeses. Our aim at the Boathouse is to bring our own slant and style of cooking to the world of Tapas. Head chef Kyle Hassall has put together a menu inspired by dishes from Greece, Spain, Italy and Morocco with particular attention paid to the authenticity of each dish. In addition to the more well-known Mediterranean cuisine on offer Kyle has incorporated some of his own creations to add a more modern twist to the menu, such dishes include –

  • Oven baked filet of salmon with a caramel glaze served on a bed of courgette spaghetti
  • Beef and pomegranate tagine with pearl cous cous
  • Poached cod with saffron cream and green pepper salsa
  • Deep fried feta goujons coated in sesame seeds with an orange and pumpkin dip
  • Mini pistachio, Goats cheese and cranberry wellington

The Boathouse is also the first of its kind to be able to offer its regular tapas menu to those diners on a gluten free diet without the need to adapt any of its recipes. ‘Tapas is all about sharing and so it was decided when we created the menu to use natural stocks and prepare dishes without using flour so that we were able to cater for coeliac guests and they could share dishes with friends in peace of mind, after all tapas is about sharing!’ Kyle, chef.

The Boathouse is fast becoming a popular venue for large groups and private parties including weddings with the Bride and Groom deciding to stray away from traditional fayre and instead treat their guests to an array of tapas in the form of the now famous ‘kings tapas’

Kings Tapas

The kings tapas is another of The Boathouses unique offerings, very much following the format of a traditional ‘mezze’ style meal the Kings tapas provides guests with the opportunity to try 11 different and varied tapas dishes which includes the most popular items from the menu alongside weekly specials this offering changes on a daily basis and is a great way for those new to tapas to be introduced. But wait it gets better!  Upon the completion of your kings tapas if you would like a repeat of any dish/dishes there is no extra charge making the kings tapas an all you can eat offer! It’s a treat and a challenge!

Visiting a restaurant is no longer about simply eating and drinking. Customers should be given an experience, be pampered and entertained here at The Boathouse we aim to do just that.

Why Tapas this summer ? – Worcestershire

Why Tapas this summer ? – Worcestershire

Tapas is the perfect choice of dining, whether you are looking for a lunch with family and friends, an afternoon snack, or an evening meal, as you can order as much or as little as you like. In addition to our beautiful first floor restaurant, we have two stunning outdoor seating areas with views of the Severn River and the Malvern Hills.

Our aim at the Boathouse is to add a touch of class and finesse to tapas. Our Head Chef as created unique specials to the Boathouse such as:

  • ‘Pan fried Salmon in caramel with courgettes spaghetti’
  • Beef and pomegranate tagine
  • Red snapper on a bed of chorizo and pineapple salsa
  • Slow cooked lamb in saffron with sliced peaches
  • Manchego cheese with thyme and honey

Here at the Boathouse we have a choice of over 30 tapas dishes as well as weekly specials and our famous Grazing Boards full of a choice of local or Continental produce.

For the hungry amongst you, try our ‘Kings Tapas’, which includes 11 of our chefs dishes of the day served over 5 courses — a wide variety of textures and flavours, which is a real journey around the Med. What’s more, is if you would like a repeat serving of any dish it’s all included free of charge — Its a tapas all-you-can-eat, for only £20 pp! (Vegetarian and Vegan alternatives to all our dishes are also available).

Celiac? no problem! 80% of our menu is gluten free. We do not use flour in any of our sauces and with prior notice, any fried foods can be made with corn flour. We also always stock gluten free bread . Our Kings tapas are also completely 100% gluten free!

Look out also for our themed evenings and live music nights throughout the summer.

Come and give The Boathouse a try this summer and don’t just take our word for it — here’s what some of our customers have to say –

Jackie, Malvern

‘A wonderful tapas cafe overlooking the River Severn. Beautifully presented food served on blocks of walnut. Cocktails to die for and the food was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will certainly go again especially if the sun shines.’

Sarah M, Tunbridge Wells

‘A spur of the moment dinner in the town where my father lived prompted us to walk around the corner to The Boat House. My father had received recommendations from local townsfolk that this tapas restaurant was serving delicious food and we weren’t disappointed. Chicken skewers with tsatsiki, chorizo and red pepper casserole, patatas bravas, chicken cooked with vodka and cream, grilled and battered Halloumi (delicious), King prawns with lemon and garlic, a grazing meat and cheese board, delicious bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar and olives. A delicious bottle of sauvignon blanc washed it down. We were advised to go for the “King Tapas’ menu – 11 mystery dishes for £20 per head with unlimited dishes afterwards if hunger had not been kept at bay – but we chose not to do this and the 6 dishes and grazing board were enough for the 4 of us. Good coffee and extensive dessert menu’

Richard , Tamworth

‘A birthday treat on a warm Sunday, so where to go? The answer was easy, make the hour drive from Warwick to one of the best restaurants we visit, The Boat Yard at Upton.

On a warm day, the balcony overlooking the river is such a special place. I really cannot think of a restaurant table with a better view.

We really love this place but for our 16 year old this was his first visit. Needless to say, he left as delighted with the place as the rest of us are.

Four of the famous King Tapas, this is not a meal, more of a feast. The food just keeps coming and coming. And this is no pile it high and sell it cheap buffet restaurant, this is serving after serving of high quality tapas food.

And the attention to customer care is a delight to see. We (well me!) loved the meatballs, so we asked for a second serving. Instead of getting meatballs we got salmon. Plus an apology, the kitchen was out of meatballs, but suggested we might like to try the salmon. I thought that was a nice gesture and yes, we did like the salmon!

The staff are lovely and well trained. They really want to serve you and make sure you have a nice time.

Please do give this place go, I know you will not be disappointed.’
